About Me

I am an alumnus of both Jesuit High School of Tampa and Spring Hill College. After a year of graduate studies in mathematics at Emory University, I returned to my high school alma mater where I taught math, coached tennis, worked as the assistant to the athletic director, and during my last year stepped out of classroom teaching to serve as both Registrar and Principal's Secretary. But after 7 wonderful years working at my alma mater, it was time to spur my growth as a teacher by leaving what was familiar and comfortable and venture on to a new challenge, so...

I picked up and moved to the other side of the country and joined the faculty of Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, CA in August 1999. Over the course of my 17 years at BCP, I had the opportunity to teach almost every level of math offered, serve as chair of the mathematics department from 2002 to 2006, complete a masters degree in education from Notre Dame de Namur University, and serve as a moderator of both Bellarmine's student newspaper (The Cardinal) and Gay/Straight CLC. But once again had a compelling desire for growth and to experience teaching outside of the familiar Catholic, Jesuit, all-boys environment. So...

that led me to Seattle, WA where I found new challenges and growth opportunities teaching at The Northwest School. Despite enjoying the refreshingly unique school culture at Northwest, the health of my family members in Florida began to decline. So...

I made the choice to leave Northwest after just a year and focus more on my consulting work and afford me more flexibility in providing support for family members back in Florida. In the fall of 2017 I began work with the Discrete Math Project Collaborative as a curriculum writer helping develop the Cryptography unit. As the year progressed, the number days spent in Florida began to greatly outnumber the days spent in Seattle due to the failing health of family and moving back to Florida was the direction I needed to head. So...

I found a teaching position at Gulliver Preparatory in Miami and once again enjoyed teaching in the classroom for the 2018-19 school year. Sadly, the passing of both my brother and mom in 2018 was emotionally challenging and logistically complex - so much so that just after Thanksgiving 2018 I gave notice that I would leave Gulliver at the end of the academic year and move back to Tampa. So...

the sad events that led me back to Tampa have provided me a new professional growth opportunity that I have been considering for awhile. Finally, after 25+ years of teaching at the high school level, I began teaching mathematics at Hillsborough Community College for the fall of 2019.

Outside of teaching, my friends know that I really enjoy being a passenger on an airplane and have been known to spend weekends jaunting to far flung places just for a day or less.
